Austin was nursing a scotch when Larissa walked through the door later that afternoon. Intrigued by the journalist’s interest in his wife, he was curious to find out what she would make of it. Surely, she’d be excited that someone had taken an interest in her so-called glorified career. He called out to her. Her heels made a clicking sound on the marble floor, echoing down the hall. She stopped and leaned against the doorframe.

“What is it?” she asked with detachment.

“Nice to see you, too,” he started. “I had an interesting encounter today.” He waited for her to react, but instead she stood calmly, arms folded with an unimpressed expression. “A freelance journalist and her photographer dropped by to interview you. They are doing on a feature on females balancing work and family life in the aviation arena. You weren’t here so I gave them a little scoop.”

“I can’t imagine what you would have told them,” She replied caustically.

“Well, they were interested in you, so I told them a little bit about your passion for work. They seemed nice. I think you should talk with them when they call again.”

“I’ll do no such thing. My life is private, and you should know better to respect that,” she retorted, furious with his arrogance. For good reason, Larissa had hated interviews since childhood. Facing the possibility of someone dredging up the past was unacceptable to her. Determined to stay in control she needed to find a way of keeping Austin in check.
